Sustainability

We take certifications seriously

We all value the assurances certification brings; the knowledge and proof that processes have been assessed – and that they meet defined standards. To learn more about the various standards, certifications and compliances that are relevant to our brand and product ranges, just click on the logos below.

GLOBAL ORGANIC TEXTILE STANDARD

GOTS ensures that from the farmers onwards, every step of the supply chain is honouring organic and ethical practices. As a standard, its cohesiveness covers both social and environmental factors, making it a valuable certification to hold. All of our suppliers, from farm to factory, have to hold GOTS certifications. Each are audited separately, including us. However, only garments decorated by a GOTS certified processer can use the GOTS logo at their point of sale which is why we have removed the GOTS label in our garments, although they remain fully certified in accordance with the standard. We are certified by Control Union under reference CU811271. www.global-standard.org

OCS 100

OCS certifies the organic content of our garments. However, as a certification, it is not subject to decorators or distributors holding the same standard and can be labelled as an OCS-certified garment beyond the point of sale. It provides a strong chain of custody system from the source of the organic cotton to the final product through certification and independent verification. OCS 100 certifies that a garment is made from 100% organic or in conversion to organic cotton. We are certified by Control Union under license 811271. www.certifications.controlunion.com

RCS BLENDED

Our rPET has been certified by RCS, which gives us the assurance that any recycled material has been fully vetted as being legitimately recycled. RCS tracks raw material throughout the supply chain and requires certification at each stage of manufacturing, beginning at the point of recycling. We are certified by Control Union under license 811271. www.certifications.controlunion.com

OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100

STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is an independent product certification label for textiles that have been tested for harmful substances, dyestuffs and chemicals that may pose a health or environmental risk. We hold STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® product class 1 certification, offering the highest level of assurance for all components of our clothing from the fabric through to threads, zips, buttons and labels. www.oeko-tex.com.

PETA-Approved Vegan

None of our products are made using any animal product. Furthermore, no Mantis and Babybugz garment has any animal product or derivate in any part of the manufacturing or production chain. www.peta.org.uk

Made In Africa

We are proud to be one of few brands in our industry sourcing organic fully made in Africa products. The entire supply chain is completely transparent, we buy organic cotton from Tanzanian farm groups whom we know personally and all the production is done under one roof at the fully vertical factory in Arusha, Tanzania.

We continue to advocate for developing a sustainable, equitable manufacturing base in sub-Saharan Africa.

When we say “Made in Africa” we say it with love and pride.

Made In Africa

From Cotton to the Finished Garment

Since our inception in 2000, part of our collection has been manufactured at Sunflag Tanzania, using local cotton from East Africa. Established in the 1960s by our founder’s grandfather, the factory is still run by her family today.

Sunflag Tanzania operates on a fully integrated basis—all stages of production take place under one roof. Spinning, fabric production, dyeing, cutting, and sewing: everything is done in-house, without the use of subcontractors.

Sustainability

Fully Certified.

We have been using organic cotton since 2005, and in 2008, Sunflag Tanzania became Africa’s first GOTS-certified textile factory.

Who Makes
Our Clothes?

Every Step Matters

Transparency You Can Trust

Traceability and transparency are at the core of our ethos. To us, it’s vital we support and celebrate every single person involved in the supply chain, from start to finish. We only work with suppliers and factories we know and trust, who share our commitment to protecting both the environment and the people who make our clothes. We welcome the unique perspective each country we manufacture in brings to our brand.

Our heart as a company is in Africa, and we are one of the few brands in our industry to manufacture there. Our founder Prama was born in East Africa into a textile family, and her grandfather built many factories in the region including Sunflag Limited in Arusha, Tanzania, where we still produce garments to this day.

Bangladesh is truly at the centre of global garment manufacturing, and we believe it’s important to have a seat at the table when it comes to making sure that workers there are afforded the rights and protections they deserve.
